Turkey Earthquake Relief Response
Assalamu Alaikum
On February 6th, a 7.8 magnitude earthquake struck southern/central part of Turkey and the western part of Syria. According to news media sources, over 19,000 civilians have died in the past four days with over 60 thousand injured and over hundreds of thousands in displacement. It is one of the worst earthquakes experienced.
In response, Pickering Islamic Centre – Masjid Usman is gearing up with the Durham Community Earthquake Relief team to send over required aided items. We ask for urgent donations of the following winter clothing items for adults and children:
Blankets | Hats |
Sleeping bags | Socks |
Coats or Jackets | Undergarments |
Raincoats | Thermos |
Boots | Flashlights (without batteries) |
Gloves | Diapers |
Scarfs | Sanitary napkins |
Trousers |
Please ensure that all items are brand new (used items will not be accepted). Please place your items in clear bags and in separate categories.
Turkish Consulate in Toronto has made arrangements to send all winter clothing to Turkey through Turkish Airlines in a prioritized manner.
We will be accepting the above donations as per schedule below:
Drop-off hours:
Thursday February 9th : 4pm – 6pm
Friday February 10th : 4pm – 6pm
Saturday February 11th : 4pm - 6pm
